Yunnan is where Lanmaoa asiatica was described and where most of the published work on it has been done. Our Yunnan lots come from mixed pine and oak forest on the central plateau and its southern escarpment.

What kind of forest does it grow in?
In Yunnan the species fruits in mixed forest dominated by Yunnan pine (Pinus yunnanensis) with evergreen oaks and chinquapins (Quercus, Castanopsis). It is ectomycorrhizal, so it grows from the root systems of these trees and is not found in open grassland or on dead wood.

When is the Yunnan harvest?
Fruiting follows the southwest monsoon. The first flushes usually appear in late June, a week or two after the rains become regular, and the main harvest runs through July and August. Collection tails off in September. A dry spell in midsummer can pause fruiting for two to three weeks.
Fresh ordering on this site is open from 1 June so that customers can reserve material for the first flush. If the rains arrive late, Fresh orders placed in June ship in the order they were received once lots come in.
How are Yunnan lots handled?
Pickers sell to a collection point the same day. Specimens are brushed, sorted and checked for identity, then either chilled for Fresh orders or sliced 5–7 mm and dried at 45 °C to under 8% moisture. Each drying run becomes one batch with its own number and certificate.
Yunnan’s wild mushroom trade is large, and several red-capped bluing boletes reach the same markets. We buy from collection points rather than from market stalls, which keeps the chain from forest block to batch short enough to document.
Does soil chemistry matter for research samples?
It can. Parts of Yunnan sit on mineralised geology, and wild boletes from the province have been studied for accumulation of mercury, cadmium and arsenic. Concentrations vary by site and by species. Every batch certificate reports a heavy-metal screen so you can judge whether a lot suits your assay.
If your work needs material from a single collection site, say so in the order notes or write to us before ordering. Single-site lots are possible during the peak weeks but are smaller.
